Each year, the elected members of the council choose a mayor for the coming year. The Mayor represents Knowsley at public events and ceremonies as well as civic events in other towns, cities and countries.
About the Mayor of Knowsley
A lifelong resident of Huyton, Frank is the Mayor of Knowsley for 2021-22.
A former pupil of St Dominic’s Primary, Junior and Secondary Modern schools, Frank started work for the Jackson/Burton Tailoring Company and then the Birds Eye Frozen Food Company.
In 1974, Frank embarked on a long career with Merseyside Fire Brigade where he served as a firefighter at a number of local stations for over 27 years.
He then worked for four years as a recruit/firefighter instructor before retiring in 2005 after 31 years’ service. During his career with Merseyside Fire Brigade, Frank served as a voluntary member of the Merseyside Police Authority Lay Visiting Scheme for a decade. This was the first scheme of its kind in the country.
Frank has also served as a member of the Board of Visitors for HMP Thorn Cross and for the Parole Board and is currently a trustee on the Board of Willowbrook Hospice.
Frank was first elected to Knowsley Council as a Councillor for St Gabriel’s ward in 2008. He has held a wide range of positions, including Vice Chair of Human Resources Appeals Committee, Vice Chair of Governance & Audit Committee, Vice Chair of Finance & Governance Committee,Chair of the Employment Working Group for Huyton Partnership Board, Chair of the Polling District Review Working Group and most recently Chair of the Planning Committee.
Frank is an extremely passionate and active champion of his local community and holds a key role as the Chair of the Friends of McGoldrick & Sawpit Parks, and volunteers at the Info-Zone and at his local Parish Church. Frank is also a practising member of St Gabriel’s Parish Church.
Frank enjoys an active lifestyle as a keen member of his local gym, where he is particularly enthusiastic about weight training. Frank has also been a keen runner over the years and has completed many half marathons and 10km runs to raise money for charity.

In 2021-22, the Mayor will be supporting Willowbrook Hospice.
Willowbrook Hospice offers care and support for adults with life-limiting illnesses.
