The Government announced a new support fund to help vulnerable households. It is available until 30 September 2022.
Knowsley Better Together Hardship Fund
A £2.5m Knowsley Better Together Hardship Fund has been launched to support residents in need with food and essentials, heating, debt advice, housing advice and support as well as supporting resident into employment and training.
Need help with essentials such as food or heating?
The council’s Knowsley Better Together Hardship Fund along with the Government’s Household Support Fund can help.
Food
Access to Knowsley Foodbank / Knowsley Food Support
Both are run by the Big Help Project. There are 2 ways to access food from a Knowsley Foodbank site, either:
- Obtain a voucher, available from organisations across the borough including many GPs, schools, Citizens Advice etc. This is presented to the foodbank volunteers at the site. Vouchers may be electronic rather than paper.
- A telephone assessment through Knowsley Food Support 0151 538 8243. You may be asked to attend a foodbank site to collect the food.
Access to food through community organisations / housing providers
Food is also available through community groups across the borough. The locations of the organisations and the support they offer with food and essentials is listed below by area.
ForHousing tenants can also contact 0300 123 5522 or TESS tessknowsley@forhousing.co.uk who will assess eligibility.
Livv tenants can contact 0151 290 7000 and ask for an advisory team referral.
Heating
Access to fuel vouchers for prepayment meters is available through the council’s Emergency Support Scheme.
Any resident with a prepayment meter for energy who is responsible for the household energy bills can apply. You should be at risk of self-disconnection (i.e. unable to afford to top up the meter and close to running out of credit).
Find out more about the Emergency Support Scheme.
Livv tenants may receive support with fuel costs – this includes a review of utility bills (phone, gas/electricity, water) and support to move to cheaper tariffs/reduce costs. As part of this, a fuel voucher may be awarded.
ForHousing tenants may receive support with fuel costs. This may include a voucher. Contact 0300 123 5522.
Some community groups offer fuel vouchers from the Fuel Bank Foundation – see below for details. This is for people who cannot afford to top up a prepayment meter only.
