Information governance

Managing personal information is more important than ever before.  All organisations that deal with personal information must meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 or face a fine of up to £500,000.

The Information Governance service will help raise awareness in your organisation, of the risks involved and how to manage them. This will help you to avoid financial penalties and prevent damage to your organisation due to loss of personal or sensitive information. We offer a 1, 2 or 3 year service to help embed this in your organisation.

What we offer

  • Review current practices
  • Staff training and awareness raising
  • Highlight roles and responsibilities
  • Enable compliance with legislation
  • Help to communicate with service users
  • Develop good practice
  • Help dealing with security incidents

What our customers say

Although our service is new to providing support to external organisations we are well established within the Council. As testimony to this, in 2012 following a data protection audit by the ICO, the Council received a ‘High Assurance’ rating, the highest recommendation possible and so far we are the only Local Authority to do so. In their final report the ICO stated, “the arrangements for data protection compliance, with regard to governance and controls, provide a high level of assurance that processes and procedures are in place and being adhered to”
